As a former Idahoan, I'm glad to read that the UN has declared 2008 as the Year of the Potato. It's about time this tuber gets some good attention.
After all the steaming, boiling, mashing and making them manage a drive-in we've done, it's about time we give them a little respect and love.
I think this calls for a celebration.
Come on, everyone! Smother them with cheese! Slice 'em and throw them in a deep fryer! Puree them with some garlic and butter! Wrap them in tinfoil and roast them in BBQ coals! Or even just put them in the oven to bake! Let's get crazy with these beauties!

Considering how good your Gratin Dauphinois is that's just a shame your kids won't eat them. You'd deserve to have a kid like my sister: she used to only eat potatoes!
See, she's really from Idaho too. ;)
Not even fried in some foreign oil that cooks them to a crisp so they don't look or taste like the potatoe, just the salt...

For many years, 'the Spud' would 'get baked' during the night complete with a cardboard box painted yellow for a pat of butter. It was funny to see it in the parade cause they used to get so mad at the 'vandalization'!
